Waiting On Wednesday #1

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Hollow City by Ransom Rigs

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was the surprise best seller of 2011—an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled readers and critics alike. Publishers Weekly called it “an enjoyable, eccentric read, distinguished by well-developed characters, a believable Welsh setting, and some very creepy monsters.”
This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.
Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly mesmerizing) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight readers of all ages.
Publication date, 1/14/2014
( I will be waiting on this one for a very LONG time! )
What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

JOYLAND by Stephen King, Book Review!

Joy land: a surprisingly sentimental novel from the king of horror!
If you haven't picked up joyland by stephen king yet then I highly suggest you do! I know your not supposed to "judge a book by its cover" but have you seen this on? it's perfect! Joyland is a pulpy mystery/ghost story that reads like it could have been written by some distant relative of Nicholas Pparks. Im not going to lie, I actually cried at the end, and not even the Fault in Our Stars could make me  cry!
This book is the perfect summer beach read, it's a coming of age novel that will be tugging at your heart strings the entire time!
I give this book 4 out of 5 star!
Seriously CHECK IT OUT!

City of Bones: A review for those of us who no longer are Young Adult

While I don't consider myself to be a "fan" of the ever growing, every popular, genre that is Young Adult Fiction, I do have a huge soft spot for reading books that are currently making an impact on our popular culture. I can't seem to leave target or Costco without the newest "Movie Tie-In" of this or that. It started with Precious, or should I say, Push by Sapphire, then made its way to the Swedish blockbuster Girl with a Dragon Tattoo....
Call it wanting to be kept up to date with what is popular in society, I just call it, me being a sucker.

So it shouldn't surprise you that when I saw the monumental display for The Mortal Instruments I had to pick up a copy of my own. I mean, the over stocked display probably took up half of the store and called out like a beacon of hope, beckoning the savvy young book buyer to come and indulge in this teen "SoapOperaey" goodness. The heavens practically opened up and led me to this display, it was my destiny, well maybe not.......
Let me reiterate for a second time. I AM A SUCKER FOR THESE. So I grabbed my copy, discretely made my way to the counter as fast as I could hoping I wouldn't catch the eye of a pretentious literary snob who tend to frequent these kind of stores... I prayed that the store clerk wouldn't be paying much attention to what I was purchasing, I especially didn't want them to see the cover..... Some lime green cliche paranormal romance stock photograph with freaking ABS on the cover. In my twenty years of living on this beautiful earth filled with literary bliss I have never read a book with freaking abs on the cover….
But, I had to have it.
I had to see what all the fuss was over.
I had to see why Hollywood was making a high budget adaptation of it.
I had to see why Barnes and Nobel, had a freakin' shrine dedicated to this books very existence……
After swiftly purchasing the novel I quickly went home and began to dive into this novel, and I am ashamed to say…..I'm hooked!
Now don't get me wrong this book is hardly going to be a classic, nor is Cassandra Clare going to be the next Jane Austen. However, she manages to get you hooked in a way that is rather brilliant. The plot of the book is extremely fast making it so that there is never EVER a dull moment. Each and every chapter ends with a cliffhanger. And just wait until you get to the end, I mean ( CENSORED ) oh sorry, I can't give that away, don't wanna spoil it for you! But, let me just say, I had NO idea I was reading a pseudo V.C. Andrews Novel. Maybe we should rename this, ShadowHunters in The Attic?
All kidding aside, this is actually a really fun light summer read. It took me about 4 hours to read.
While I wouldn't recommend it to any of my professors or overly pretentious classmates. I would say if you want something fun, something that just feels like a guilty pleasure, then this is the book for you!
I give city of bones 3.5 out of 5 stars!
The Moral of this story it.....Books with Abs on the cover can be a worthwhile read!

Happy Reading, and may all of your wildest dreams come true.

-Ben
( Who's secretly wishing he had abs like that on the cover! )
